Apple has updated a support document to address an unusual issue that caused a small number of iPhone users to place phone calls by accident. According to the company, the bug affected some devices running iOS 26, and the fix is already included in iOS 26.3 and later versions.
The problem was tied to dual SIM iPhone models. Apple says that when a user tapped a phone number, the device would show a dialog asking which SIM should handle the call. In certain cases, if the user did not make a selection and then left the phone idle for a long period, such as overnight while charging, the iPhone could unexpectedly place an outgoing call to the number that had been tapped earlier.
Apple described the issue as a software bug and now recommends that affected users update to the latest version of iOS as soon as possible. That means anyone still on an earlier build of iOS 26 should move to iOS 26.3 or newer to avoid the behavior.
The company also restated the standard update process for users who may not have installed the fix yet. Apple suggests backing up the device first through iCloud or a computer, plugging the iPhone into power, connecting it to Wi-Fi, and then opening Settings, tapping General, and going into Software Update to check whether a new version is available.
If an update appears, users can tap Download and Install and follow the on-screen instructions. While Apple said the bug only affected a limited number of people, it is the kind of issue that could be genuinely disruptive, especially if an unintended call happens late at night or reaches a work or personal contact at the wrong time.
For now, Apple’s message is straightforward: if your iPhone runs an older iOS 26 build and uses dual SIM support, updating the system is the clearest way to make sure the accidental calling issue is fully resolved.
