Apple may be preparing one of its biggest AI platform changes yet. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is planning to let Siri connect with additional third-party AI chatbots beginning with iOS 27, expanding beyond its current arrangement with OpenAI and ChatGPT.

Right now, Siri can already offer to hand certain requests off to ChatGPT when Apple’s own assistant cannot answer them directly. Gurman says Apple wants to broaden that model so services from companies such as Google and Anthropic can plug into the same workflow. If that happens, users who install apps like Gemini or Claude could choose those tools as part of Siri’s request-routing system.

The report says Apple is working on a new Extensions option inside the Apple Intelligence & Siri settings area. From there, users would be able to select which outside service they want Siri to use. Apple is also reportedly considering adding direct App Store download links for supported AI apps, making the setup process easier for people who want alternatives to ChatGPT.

That would be a meaningful shift because OpenAI would no longer hold the exclusive outside-AI position inside Siri. Gurman argues the move could help Apple earn more through App Store subscriptions tied to AI services, while also giving the company a more flexible approach in regions where different providers matter for regulatory, language, or market reasons.

The broader strategy could also make Apple Intelligence more adaptable internationally. The IT Home report notes that wider third-party support may help Apple’s AI rollout in markets where a single US provider is not the ideal fit. Apple has reportedly explored handing Siri queries to Gemini before, so this would not be coming out of nowhere.

For now, none of this is official. Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27 during its WWDC 2026 keynote on June 9, and that event is the most likely place for the company to explain how the next version of Siri, Apple Intelligence, and third-party AI integrations are supposed to work together.
