Samsung Tri-Fold Wide Patent Shows Slimmer Hinge Design and Tent Mode Concept

A newly surfaced Samsung patent offers a closer look at what a future Samsung tri-fold phone could become, with renders pointing to a wide-format device that may eventually launch as the Galaxy Z TriFold Wide.

Based on the patent material, the concept keeps Samsung’s dual-hinge, triple-panel layout but shifts toward a wider fold-out shape. When fully opened, the device looks closer to a compact tablet. When folded, part of the outer display remains visible for quick access, and the rear panel houses a triple-camera setup.

The most notable detail is the hinge system. Samsung appears to be exploring a slimmer, lighter structure designed to reduce the bulk that usually comes with multi-fold devices. That could be a major step if the company wants a tri-fold phone to feel more practical for everyday use.

The patent also describes a distinctive tent mode. In this position, the device can stand on its own in a triangular shape, opening up use cases like video playback, widget viewing, or acting as a small desktop-style display.

In the folded state, the phone stacks into layers, with one section of the screen exposed on the outside. Physical side buttons remain in place, and the frame looks sturdy enough to support different fold angles.

As always, a patent doesn’t guarantee a shipping product. Still, the design gives a useful preview of how Samsung may be thinking about the next generation of large-screen foldables, especially if it wants to push beyond the book-style fold and into more flexible form factors.
