A new Chinese tipster report suggests the Xiaomi MIX Fold 5 could be one of Xiaomi’s most important foldable launches yet, with the device rumored to debut HyperOS 4 and a stronger focus on AI across system apps.
The claim comes from Weibo blogger “Smart Pikachu,” who described a mysterious wide-format foldable phone that is expected to be the Xiaomi MIX Fold 5. According to the post, Xiaomi’s built-in system apps have been given “AI empowerment,” which points to deeper AI functions inside everyday apps rather than a few isolated chatbot-style features.
The blogger also said the phone would be Xiaomi’s most expensive Leica flagship and called it the company’s best carrier for AI interaction. That wording suggests Xiaomi may position the foldable form factor as a better place to show AI tools, since the larger inner display can handle multitasking, document work, image tools, and assistant-style interactions more naturally than a standard phone screen.
In the comment section, the same source added that the AI functions in HyperOS 4 will be closely tied to app development. The original report does not list specific features, so it is too early to say whether this means AI writing, app actions, image editing, smart search, cross-app automation, or a mix of several tools.

For U.S. readers, the key point is that Xiaomi appears to be moving in the same direction as other major phone makers: AI is becoming part of the operating system and default apps, not just a separate assistant. A foldable gives the company more room to build multi-window workflows around those features.
Previous reports have also suggested that the Xiaomi MIX Fold 5 may use Xiaomi’s Xring O3 chip. That chip is said to target performance comparable to Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8E5 platform, though Xiaomi has not confirmed the full hardware specification in this report.
The current Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 can be used as a reference point. It launched in July 2024 with a starting price of 8,999 yuan, a third-generation Snapdragon 8 flagship platform, a 7.98-inch inner display, a 6.56-inch outer display, Leica Summilux quad rear cameras, and a 5,100mAh Xiaomi Jinshajiang battery.
If the rumor is accurate, the next model could be less about a simple hardware refresh and more about pairing a premium Leica camera system, a foldable layout, Xiaomi’s own silicon ambitions, and app-level AI features inside HyperOS 4.
As always with early leaks, the details should be treated cautiously until Xiaomi makes an official announcement. Still, the report gives a clear hint about where the MIX Fold line may be headed: bigger screens, deeper AI integration, and a stronger software identity around Xiaomi’s own ecosystem.
