Apple Releases iOS 26.5 Beta 3 for Developers With More Work on Encrypted RCS and Subscription Changes

Apple has rolled out iOS 26.5 Beta 3 and the matching iPadOS 26.5 developer preview for supported iPhone and iPad devices. The new test build, listed as version 23F5059e, arrives seven days after the previous beta release.

For users tracking Apple’s preview channels, the update follows the company’s usual split between the public beta path and the developer beta path. Public testers need to enroll through Apple’s beta software program and then install the release from Settings, while registered developers can download the build through the standard software update screen after signing into Apple’s developer program.

One of the more notable items still in testing is RCS encryption for messages exchanged between iPhone users and Android users. Apple had previously introduced end-to-end encryption support for RCS in an earlier iOS 26.4 beta, but that feature was later removed before the stable release. The latest 26.5 test cycle shows that Apple is still working on bringing that capability back.

The beta also continues work tied to Apple’s broader platform changes. According to the source report, Apple is preparing to add sponsored recommendations inside Maps under a Suggested Places-style experience. When users open the Maps app for the first time after the change, they may see a notice explaining how paid recommendations will appear for nearby locations.

Apple is also said to be adding a new in-app purchase option that combines monthly billing with a 12-month commitment. That kind of setup could give subscription app developers another way to balance pricing flexibility with retention, especially for services that want something between a normal month-to-month plan and a prepaid annual bundle.

For reference, the current iOS 26.5 testing timeline now includes Beta 1, Beta 2, and this latest third developer beta. As usual, some features in preview builds may still change before Apple pushes a final public release.
