REDMI K90 Max Sets a New First-Sale Record Across China's 3K-4K Phone Segment

Xiaomi says the REDMI K90 Max has already delivered a standout first-sale result. According to the company, the phone became the top-selling new release in China’s 3,000 to 4,000 yuan smartphone segment within the first four hours after launch, setting what it described as a new full-channel opening-sales record for that price band over the past year.

The REDMI K90 Max was officially introduced yesterday with a starting list price of 3,499 yuan. During the launch period, Xiaomi is applying a 300 yuan subsidy across all versions, bringing the promotional starting price down to 2,999 yuan. With the cited national subsidy included, the entry configuration starts at 2,549.15 yuan.

Xiaomi outlined the launch pricing for the full lineup as follows:

  • 12GB + 256GB: 2,999 yuan launch price, or 2,549.15 yuan after the cited subsidy
  • 16GB + 256GB: 3,499 yuan launch price, or 2,999 yuan after subsidy
  • 12GB + 512GB: 3,499 yuan launch price, or 2,999 yuan after subsidy
  • 16GB + 512GB: 3,999 yuan launch price, or 3,499 yuan after subsidy
  • 16GB + 1TB: 4,699 yuan launch price, or 4,199 yuan after subsidy

The company is positioning the phone as a performance-focused flagship. Xiaomi says the REDMI K90 Max is its first handset with a built-in cooling fan. It also includes the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chip and an AI display co-processor called D2.

According to Xiaomi, the device uses an independent sealed airflow channel and a full-metal bearing structure. The phone is also rated IP66, IP68, and IP69 for dust and water resistance, and the company says it has passed a 50,000-hour aging test.

IT Home also noted a related exchange from yesterday. Xiaomi Group partner and president Lu Weibing, who also leads the smartphone division and serves as Xiaomi brand general manager, posted a summary of the phone’s core specifications on Weibo. When a user asked whether the 2,999 yuan launch pricing still leaves room for profit, Lu replied with a single word: loss-making.
