OPPO has issued a fresh consumer alert, warning shoppers to watch out for scams built around unusually cheap smartphone offers and to avoid any purchase flow that moves outside official platform safeguards.
According to the company’s legal team, it has recently seen fraudulent accounts on platforms such as Xiaohongshu using heavily discounted OPPO Find-series phones to lure potential buyers. The pitch often claims the seller has access to JD self-operated partner channels, extra state subsidies, and major platform coupons that bring the final price far below normal market levels.
To make the story look believable, scammers are said to use forged JD order screenshots and fake shipping references tied to major courier brands. Buyers are then pushed to continue the deal through private WeChat chats or unofficial Douyin storefronts, where they are asked to split payments into multiple bank transfers or off-platform scans that bypass escrow protection.
Once payment is sent, the fraudsters reportedly invent new obstacles such as regional purchase restrictions or failed order submissions, then demand additional money to “fix” the issue. They may promise a refund within three to seven days, but OPPO says the scammers often disappear after collecting the funds.
The company added that it has already helped police in several cities, including Kunming and Zhengzhou, open related cases. OPPO also warned that some of these fraud chains appear to involve cross-border activity, making recovery of lost money especially difficult.
As part of its consumer protection guidance, OPPO says buyers should stick to the official OPPO website, the brand’s official online store, authorized flagship stores on major platforms, and approved offline retail locations. It also says people should reject any private transaction that leaves official platform protection behind, no matter how attractive the discount looks.
