Xiaomi has announced a new Xiaomi HyperOS developer preview based on Android 17 Beta 2, giving developers early access to the next software build for select flagship phones.
According to Xiaomi community details cited in the source report, this preview currently supports the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition. That makes the rollout fairly narrow and clearly aimed at testing rather than broad consumer use.
The update also comes with strict upgrade-path requirements tied to system security patch compatibility. Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition users need to be on OS3.0.303.0.WPACNXM before upgrading, while Xiaomi 17 users need OS3.0.306.0.WPCCNXM.
Xiaomi is also being unusually direct about the risks. It describes this release as a developer preview build and says overall stability can’t be predicted yet. In practical terms, that means it isn’t recommended for everyday use, and it definitely isn’t the kind of update most people should install on a primary phone.
For developers, though, the release is still important. It opens the door to early compatibility testing, app behavior checks, and feature validation on Xiaomi’s upcoming Android 17 software stack. As usual with preview firmware, anyone considering the jump should prepare carefully before flashing the build.
