Leaker Says Xiaomi 17 Max Could Arrive in Late May With a Big Flat Display and an 8,000mAh-Class Battery

Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station says a new large-screen flagship built around an “8E5” platform is currently scheduled for late May, and the device is widely expected to be the Xiaomi 17 Max. The early description points to a phone aimed at users who want a big display, a huge battery, and flagship-tier imaging in one package.

According to the leak, the phone is expected to use an ultra-clear flat display with very slim, even bezels created with LIPO packaging. It’s also said to feature a high-resolution camera system, a roughly 3x mid-sole periscope telephoto setup, a major battery upgrade in the 8,000mAh class, a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, full water resistance, and a symmetrical dual-speaker-style design language.

The same source hinted that the first colors could be white and black. In the comments, the leaker also said the vibration motor may be fairly ordinary and that at least one version could use a glass back. A previously discussed under-display camera idea, meanwhile, appears to have been shelved for now and sent “back to the lab.”

Another clue comes from a Xiaomi device with model number 2605EPN8EC, which passed China’s SRRC certification on April 15. Based on earlier reporting and the current round of leaks, that model is believed to be Xiaomi’s upcoming large-screen member of the 17 series. Some rumors have referred to it as the Xiaomi 17 Max, while others have floated the name Xiaomi 17S Pro.

Current expectations suggest a 6.9-inch 1.5K flat display with very narrow borders, a 200MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto macro camera, and dual speakers. The phone is also expected to use Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite 5 platform, though some speculation says Xiaomi could also consider a variant tied to its own Xuanjie chip effort.

One of the more notable details in the leak is the battery strategy. Reports say Xiaomi dropped the more eye-catching secondary rear display concept that had once been associated with a “Pro Max”-style direction and used the internal space savings to push battery capacity much higher instead. The previously exposed battery figure was 7,850mAh rated and around 8,000mAh typical, which would make it the biggest battery yet in a Xiaomi-branded phone if the final product ships that way.
