Motorola Launches the Moto G87 With a 200MP Main Camera and IP69 Durability

Motorola has officially introduced the Moto G87, positioning it as the most camera-focused device yet in the G-series. The headline feature is a 200MP main camera with optical image stabilization and support for 2x lossless zoom, giving the phone a much stronger imaging pitch than earlier models in the range.

The rear camera system also includes an 8MP ultra-wide camera, while the front uses a 32MP selfie shooter. Motorola is clearly leaning into photography as the main selling point here, especially for buyers who want a more ambitious sensor setup without moving into flagship pricing territory.

Beyond the camera hardware, the Moto G87 runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 6400 chip and can be configured with up to 12GB of RAM. On the front, it uses a 6.78-inch Extreme AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, peak brightness rated at 5,000 nits, and Gorilla Glass 7i protection.

Durability is another major part of the story. Motorola says the phone carries IP66, IP68, and IP69 durability ratings, and it also meets MIL-STD-810H testing standards for ruggedness, including drops from as high as 1.2 meters. The company is also promoting stereo speakers that it says can deliver up to a 280% improvement in audio performance compared with the previous generation.

The phone packs a 5,200mAh battery, supports 30W wired charging, and ships with Android 16 out of the box. Motorola says the Moto G87 will go on sale in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America over the next few weeks, though final pricing still hasn’t been announced. In some markets, the device may reportedly appear under the Moto G Max name.
