A new MacRumors preview outlines what Apple may be preparing for iOS 27, and the early picture points to a release focused on smarter software, broader satellite connectivity, and a more app-like Siri experience. Apple is expected to unveil the system at WWDC 2026, with the first developer beta likely arriving right after the keynote, a public beta in July, and a final public release in September.

One of the biggest rumored changes is a standalone Siri app that would work across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The idea is that users could interact with Siri through both text and voice, and also review their conversation history in a way that feels more like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude than the current built-in assistant flow.

Apple is also said to be testing a new Siri interface inside the Dynamic Island. When Siri is triggered, users may see a glowing prompt that invites them to “search or ask,” giving the assistant a more visible and interactive presence in everyday use.

Another lingering expectation is Apple’s more personalized Siri system, which was delayed in 2024. The report says Apple may finally bring those features to iOS 27, letting Siri answer questions with better context from a user’s messages, email, and other on-device information. Tim Cook also recently said Apple expects to deliver a more personal Siri experience later this year.

The satellite side could be even more significant. The report says iOS 27 may add 5G satellite internet support, potentially limited to the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra, all of which are expected to use Apple’s C2 modem.

  • Send and receive iMessage photos over satellite
  • Allow third-party apps to integrate satellite features
  • Connect without needing to point the iPhone directly at the sky

Apple already offers satellite-based Emergency SOS, Find My assistance, roadside support, and text messaging in supported regions. The report adds that Amazon acquired Globalstar last month and then signed an agreement with Apple to support satellite service for current and future iPhone and Apple Watch models.

Beyond new features, Apple may use iOS 27 the way it once used Snow Leopard on the Mac: a release aimed at polishing quality and improving lower-level performance. A redesigned virtual keyboard is reportedly in testing as well, with stronger autocorrect behavior.

The overall Liquid Glass design language is expected to stay in place, though Apple could add a system-wide transparency slider so users can fine-tune how translucent the interface looks. The preview also says Apple may bring four new Apple Intelligence features to the iPhone 15 Pro and later, including calorie tracking from food labels, saving paper business cards directly into Contacts, digitizing physical membership or gym cards, and auto-grouping Safari tabs based on their content.
