A new leak suggests an upcoming handset under the OPPO umbrella is being evaluated with a 100MP front camera built around a 1:1 camera sensor. The information comes from tipster Digital Chat Station, and discussion around the teaser points to OPPO as the likely brand involved.

The report does not say the hardware has been finalized for a retail product. Instead, it describes the module as something currently under evaluation, which usually means the company is still testing whether the imaging setup is practical enough for a future phone release.

What makes the rumor stand out is the sensor format. A square sensor for a smartphone selfie camera could open up more flexible framing and software features, especially if brands want to support cropping, stabilization, or more dynamic portrait and video tools without giving up too much image area.

This isn’t the first time OPPO has been linked to the idea. Earlier reports had already said that both OPPO and Huawei were looking at 1:1 square sensors for front-facing use. If that direction moves forward, it could give future phones more options for front camera shooting styles rather than sticking with a conventional layout.

As a point of comparison, Apple’s current iPhone 17 family is said to use an 18MP Center Stage front camera based on a square sensor. That setup is tied to features such as tap-to-zoom behavior, rotation support, better subject centering, and improved video stabilization. Against that backdrop, an OPPO front camera using a much higher-resolution approach would be an interesting next step—if the company decides to bring the idea to market.

For now, this remains an OPPO smartphone rumor, not a confirmed launch detail. Still, the mention of a 100MP front camera is enough to make the project one to watch if OPPO continues experimenting with unconventional selfie hardware.
