A fresh smartphone leak suggests the upcoming OnePlus 16 could be shaping up as a high-end performance flagship with an unusually aggressive hardware package. The report, cited by IT Home and sourced from tipster Digital Chat Station, points to a prototype built around Qualcomm’s next premium chip tier.
According to the leak, the phone is expected to use an SM8975 platform described as a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 Pro device. Based on the hints shared in the post, the model in question is widely believed to be the OnePlus 16.
The early engineering sample is said to feature an extra-high-refresh BOE flat display, which likely means a panel running at 144Hz or above. On the camera side, the biggest talking point is a rumored 200MP periscope camera, paired with a large sensor and positioned as part of a more complete flagship imaging setup.
The same leak also claims the phone may carry a battery configuration approaching 9,000mAh. If that figure holds up in a commercial device, it would easily stand out in the premium Android segment. Other rumored hardware details include a bionic-style large X-axis vibration motor, symmetrical dual speakers, top-tier water resistance, and a dedicated AI key.
As context, IT Home noted that the current-generation OnePlus 15 went on sale last October starting at 3,999 yuan. That model shipped with a fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a new Glacier cooling system, a 7,300mAh battery, 120W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and a 50MP triple-camera setup.
For now, everything here should still be treated as pre-release information rather than confirmed product specs. Even so, the leak paints a clear picture of what OnePlus may be targeting next: a more extreme performance phone with a bigger battery, faster display, and a headline-grabbing zoom camera.
