A new leak claims Google is already planning the chip strategy for the Google Pixel 12 series, and the next in-house platform may be called Tensor G7. According to tipster mysticleaks, the chip carries the internal codename “Lajolla” and is currently expected to show up in Pixel phones arriving in 2027.
The report suggests Google is staying committed to its custom-silicon roadmap rather than switching over to a third-party flagship mobile processor. That would keep the Pixel line on the same general path it has followed with earlier Tensor generations, where Google prioritizes its own approach to AI, imaging, and software integration.
There still aren’t many hard technical details available, but the early expectation is that Tensor G7 could use TSMC’s 2nm process. The leak adds that this may be an improved version of the same manufacturing class that Google is expected to use for Tensor G6.
If that turns out to be accurate, the chip story here may be less about chasing benchmark dominance and more about steady refinement. Google’s Tensor platform has generally been positioned around AI-assisted features and real-world user experience instead of raw peak performance, and this new rumor fits that pattern.
For now, this is still an early-stage leak, so the final product could change a lot before launch. Even so, the mention of Google Pixel 12, the Lajolla codename, and an upgraded 2nm process gives us an early look at how Google may be thinking about the next phase of its in-house mobile chips.
