A newly surfaced Samsung patent suggests the company is exploring a future Samsung tri-fold phone that could solve one of the first-generation model’s biggest missing features by building S Pen support directly into the device’s hinge area.

According to the patent images shared by leaker xleaks7, Samsung is considering a dedicated stylus storage compartment inside the hinge structure itself. Instead of asking users to carry the pen separately, the design would let the handset keep the stylus onboard, which could make day-to-day use much more practical.

The concept appears to go beyond simple storage. The patent hints that Samsung may also be evaluating magnets, charging components, and detection mechanisms that can confirm whether the pen has been inserted correctly and potentially recharge it while it is docked. If that part of the design makes it into a real product, it would make the built-in pen experience feel much closer to what Galaxy Note and Ultra users have come to expect.

There is, however, a clear hardware tradeoff. To make room for this hinge design, Samsung may need to reduce the width of one display section. That could affect weight distribution and how balanced the device feels in hand, especially in a product category where comfort and portability are already difficult engineering problems.
The report also notes that Samsung has reportedly been trying to make its next tri-fold model thinner. Adding integrated stylus hardware could push in the opposite direction by increasing thickness, which means the company may need to choose carefully between convenience, pen functionality, and overall portability. For now, the filing should be treated as an early design direction rather than confirmation of a final shipping device, but it offers a revealing look at how Samsung may evolve the next generation of its foldable lineup.
