Samsung appears to be working on a new feature in One UI 9 that goes beyond a typical app timer. Based on code spotted inside a One UI 9 beta build built on Android 17, the tool is designed to help users stay on task by directly limiting network access for selected categories of apps.

According to details cited from Android Authority, the upcoming focus tool is hidden inside Samsung’s Wi-Fi settings. After repeatedly tapping the Smart Wi-Fi section, users can enter Connectivity Labs, where the feature shows up as a form of network management meant specifically for concentration.

What makes it different from a standard digital wellbeing toggle is the way it works. Instead of just warning users or setting a general time cap, Samsung seems to be grouping distracting apps such as social media, short-video platforms, streaming services, and games, then cutting off internet access for those categories once the mode is enabled.

The code also suggests Samsung is building in several safeguards. The feature reportedly includes a six-digit PIN, along with prompts for confirmation, recovery, reset, and incorrect-entry handling. That points to a system meant not only for self-discipline, but also for situations where parents may want to stop children from disabling the restrictions too easily.

There also appears to be a scheduled Downtime mode. Users would be able to set start and end times so the restrictions turn on automatically during work hours, study blocks, classes, or evening homework time. If Samsung keeps this implementation in the final release, the feature could become one of the more practical quality-of-life additions in One UI 9.
