Xiaomi Teases the 17 Max Phone and Its First Clip-On Earbuds Ahead of a May 16 Livestream

Xiaomi executive Lu Weibing says the company will use a May 16 outdoor livestream to share more details about the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Max. The session is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. local time and is being framed as a broad summer product preview rather than a phone-only event.

According to Lu, the stream will answer questions people have been asking about the new handset, including when it is expected to go on sale, how its performance is shaping up, and whether rising memory costs could affect the product. He also said Xiaomi plans to show its first clip-on earbuds during the same broadcast.

The teaser goes beyond audio gear. Xiaomi says the livestream will also touch on additional AIoT products, including a refrigerator, air conditioner, robot vacuum and mop, and an air purifier. That makes the event look like a wider ecosystem showcase built around one of the company’s headline mobile launches.

Based on earlier IT Home coverage cited in the report, the Xiaomi 17 Max is expected to launch later this month with Qualcomm’s fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. The phone is also said to feature Xiaomi’s first Leica-branded 200MP main camera, a 3x periscope telephoto lens, and an 8000mAh Jinshajiang battery that Xiaomi describes as its strongest endurance setup yet in a smartphone.

Other details mentioned in the article include a 6.9-inch flat display with very narrow, symmetrical bezels, a curved wraparound frame, and large rounded corners. Xiaomi is reportedly preparing three color options: Sky Blue, White, and Pixel Black.

As for the earbuds, the article says Xiaomi’s first clip-on earbuds use an integrated flowing form and a relatively understated overall look, with a transparent acoustic sphere as one of the main design touches. More specifics will likely be saved for the livestream itself.
