Samsung’s next-generation foldable device has made an unexpected early public appearance. According to tech media outlet Sammobile, Samsung is preparing to unveil two distinct folding smartphones—the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a premium Z Fold 8 Ultra—at its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event in July. Now, a real-life prototype of the standard model has been spotted in the wild, giving enthusiasts a first look at the redesigned chassis and camera layout.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 leak originated from a restaurant in South Korea, where an eagle-eyed patron managed to snap two somewhat blurry photos of the unreleased device and post them to an online community forum. The first image displays the phone resting flat on a dining table, enclosed in a thick black security case designed to mask its precise industrial details. The second image shows the device in hand, confirming that it features a unexpected layout with only dual rear cameras on the back panel.
Despite the low quality of the leaked photographs, several key design modifications are clearly visible. Most notably, this prototype appears to be substantially wider than previous generations of the Galaxy Z Fold line, which historically favored a tall, narrow outer screen. This new, broader stance aligns perfectly with leaked CAD schematic renders that have circulated online over the past few months, indicating that Samsung is addressing long-standing complaints regarding the cramped typing experience on the cover screen of its Samsung wide folding phone.
This shift in aspect ratio and camera count points to a strategic repositioning of the foldable family. Early industry rumors suggested that Samsung intended to brand this wider, more affordable variant as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. However, recent supply chain insights suggest that the tech giant has opted to drop the “Wide” moniker entirely. The wide-aspect model will launch simply as the core Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the traditional premium triple-camera package and ultra-slim construction will be reserved exclusively for the high-end Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
