Samsung Galaxy A57 5G launches with IP68 durability, a slimmer design, and six years of Android updates

Samsung has officially introduced the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G as its newest upper-midrange phone, and the update leans more on refinement than a total reset. The new model brings IP68 phone-level dust and water resistance, a slimmer body, lighter weight, and narrower display bezels for a more premium in-hand feel.

The company says the phone is now just 6.9mm thick and weighs 179 grams. Even with that thinner profile, Samsung kept a Gorilla Glass Victus+ exterior and a metal frame. Color options include Deep Sea Blue, Fog Rock Gray, Cool River Blue, and Ice Taro Purple.

Durability is one of the clearer upgrades this year. Samsung raised the protection rating from the Galaxy A56’s IP67 level to IP68 phone protection on the A57, while also tightening the bezels around the screen. Internal hardware changes are more modest, though Samsung says the cooling chamber is larger and the processor has moved from the Exynos 1580 to the newer Exynos 1680. According to the launch details, that should deliver faster overall performance and a small bump in image processing capability, while most of the remaining core specs stay close to the previous generation.

Up front, the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G uses a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED+ display with a straight-edge measurement and slim-border styling. Samsung didn’t pitch this as a radical panel change, but it continues to position the phone as a polished everyday device rather than a stripped-down budget option.

Camera hardware is still a major part of the package. The phone includes a 50MP camera with optical image stabilization, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 5-megapixel macro camera. On the front, Samsung uses a 12-megapixel selfie camera with Super HDR support. The company also says its upgraded night shooting system uses an enhanced ISP for faster image handling, less visible noise, clearer low-light detail, and reduced blur. Samsung adds that the main sensor uses large 1.0μm pixels to capture more ambient light.

Samsung also introduced the Galaxy A37 in overseas markets at the same event. That model keeps a similar look, with a 7.4mm thickness and 196-gram weight, but it uses a more affordable plastic middle frame and is easier to distinguish from the A57 once you look closely at the antenna design and body thickness.

The Galaxy A37 also gets a lighter spec refresh, including the newer Exynos 1480 chip, a 50-megapixel main camera that matches the A57, and a peak display brightness of 1900 nits. Still, the A57 is clearly the more premium of the two phones Samsung positioned in this release cycle.

Both phones pack a 5000mAh battery and support 45W charging. Samsung notes that the charging speed is actually quicker than on its flagship Galaxy S26, though the tradeoff is that neither device supports wireless charging. The company also promises six major Android OS upgrades and six years of security patches for both models, which gives the A57 unusually long software support for this segment.

In China, the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G is now available for reservation. The 8GB + 256GB version is priced at 3,299 yuan, while the 12GB + 256GB version comes in at 3,699 yuan, with subsidized pricing starting from 2,804.15 yuan. In the US market, Samsung lists the 8GB + 128GB version at $549.99 and the 8GB + 256GB version at $609.99. In the UK, the 12GB + 512GB version is priced at £699.

For buyers who want a Samsung midrange phone with longer software support, stronger water resistance, and a cleaner premium design without stepping into flagship pricing, the Samsung Galaxy A57 looks like a deliberate step forward rather than a flashy reinvention.
