Samsung may be preparing a wider take on its next book-style foldable. According to a new report from Android Headlines, the company is working on a device currently referred to as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide, an unreleased model that could be positioned as a direct answer to Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone.
The report says the broader design is meant to deliver a more traditional smartphone feel when the device is closed, while also giving users a roomier reading and multitasking experience once it opens up. In that sense, the concept sounds closer to Google’s Pixel Fold approach than to Samsung’s narrower recent Fold models.
Based on the leaked CAD renders, the folded dimensions are said to come in at 123.9 x 82.2 x 9.8 mm, while the thinnest part of the device measures 4.9 mm when unfolded. The camera housing is described as fairly prominent, and with the module included, the total folded thickness reportedly reaches 14.6 mm. That would make the phone noticeably chunky on a desk, especially if the raised camera system causes some wobble when laid flat.
Hardware-wise, the report expects the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide to share much of its core platform with the standard Galaxy Z Fold8. That includes a custom Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip, configurations with up to 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage, a 5000mAh battery, 45W wired charging, and 25W wireless charging. If accurate, Samsung wouldn’t be treating this as a cut-back experiment, but as a full flagship variant built around a different form factor.
Display sizes are also part of the leak. The outer screen is said to measure 5.4 inches, while the inner panel comes in at 7.6 inches. Those numbers suggest Samsung is trying to balance one-handed usability with a larger front footprint, which could make the device easier to live with day to day than the tall-and-narrow shape foldable buyers have gotten used to.
Nothing here is official yet, and the name itself may still change before launch. Even so, the idea behind the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide is pretty clear: if Apple really is moving toward an iPhone Fold, Samsung may want a model that feels more familiar in the hand while still offering the bigger-screen benefits people expect from a foldable.
