Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 may stick with M13 OLED panels

Samsung may continue using M13 OLED material for several of its next foldable devices. According to a report from Korean media outlet Etnews, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and a wider foldable model are all expected to ship with display panels based on the same material set.

The report says these panels will be supplied exclusively by Samsung Display. That would keep Samsung on a familiar path, since M13 has already been used across multiple recent phones, including earlier foldables and several Galaxy S models.

In Samsung’s lineup, M13 first appeared with the Galaxy S24 family and later continued into devices such as the Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Galaxy S25 series, and newer foldable generations. By contrast, the standard Galaxy S26 and S26+ are still said to use M13, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra reportedly moved to the newer M14 material.

Industry observers cited in the report believe this shows how smartphone display upgrades are slowing down. Panel technology is already mature enough that switching to a new material every cycle does not always create a major visible benefit for users.

There is also a cost angle. Even when a phone keeps the same base material, manufacturers can still improve performance through tuning and engineering refinement while reducing the amount of material needed for similar results. That makes older material platforms like M13 OLED more practical in a market where margins remain under pressure.

For now, Samsung has not officially confirmed the panel material for its next foldables. Still, if this report is accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 could focus more on refinement and cost control than on a headline display-material change.
