Sony Xperia 1 VIII renders point to a redesigned rear camera island and flagship-grade hardware

Fresh Sony Xperia 1 VIII renders shared by PhoneArena suggest Sony is reworking the back of its next flagship, replacing the brand’s long-running vertical camera strip with a more conventional rectangular camera island.

The report notes that the images were created from current leaks and may still change in small ways before launch, but the overall design is said to be close to the production version.

On the front, Sony appears to be keeping the familiar Xperia layout. The selfie camera and earpiece are still integrated into the top bezel, while the lower bezel continues to house a second speaker.

Around the back, the three cameras are grouped together in the upper-left corner. According to the leak, the main and telephoto cameras are expected to use larger sensors, while the ultra-wide camera may stay broadly in line with the current generation.

As for core specs, the phone is rumored to use Qualcomm’s fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite platform and ship with at least 12GB of memory.

If this design direction holds, the Xperia 1 VIII would represent one of Sony’s more visible hardware changes in years, while still keeping the front-side identity that Xperia users already recognize.
