Made-in-India smartphone shipments grew 8% in 2025 as exports jumped 28%, CounterPoint says

CounterPoint Research says Made in India smartphones posted another year of growth in 2025, with total shipments rising 8% year over year and smartphone exports surging 28%.

According to the firm, exports now account for roughly one-third of all smartphones manufactured in India, showing how quickly the country is becoming a bigger production and export base for global handset brands.

The report says Foxconn, which handles iPhone assembly work for Apple, was one of the biggest beneficiaries. Its production volume rose 40% year over year, while export volume climbed 48%. Samsung’s export contribution also increased 4% from a year earlier.

CounterPoint Research director Tarun Pathak said India’s export role has strengthened significantly. Helped by smartphones, electronics became India’s third-largest export category in fiscal 2025 and could move into second place in fiscal 2026.

Domestic EMS companies also kept expanding. Dixon Technologies led the group with shipment growth of 89%, driven by higher order volume from Motorola, realme, and Xiaomi.

Bhagwati Products Limited also entered the top five for the first time after seeing strong outsourced manufacturing demand tied to vivo, OPPO, and realme.

Put together, the latest figures suggest India’s smartphone manufacturing base is no longer just about serving local demand. It’s increasingly turning into a broader export platform for major global phone makers and their supply-chain partners.
