A new leak suggests Xiaomi’s Redmi sub-brand may be evaluating a handset built around a massive 7-inch display, with the panel reportedly combining 2K screen resolution and a very high refresh rate in a flat-screen design.
The claim comes from tipster Digital Chat Station, who said a next-generation product line from a major brand’s sub-series is testing a 7-inch class display. Based on the source’s posting habits, IT Home believes the device is likely a future Redmi phone.
This isn’t the first time the idea has come up. IT Home notes that the same tipster said back in February that two smartphone makers were evaluating giant-screen phones in the 7-inch range, though no brand names or model numbers were given at the time. The tipster later added on April 2 that one sub-brand iteration was also testing a roughly 7-inch flat panel alongside a battery in the 10,000mAh class.
That makes the rumor interesting because current flagship phones have mostly settled around 6.9 inches as the upper end of the mainstream range. IT Home points to devices such as the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max, and Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max as examples of how large-screen flagships are currently positioned in the market.
For now, there are still no confirmed product details beyond the panel direction. Still, if the leak holds up, Xiaomi could be exploring a Redmi phone that pushes beyond today’s typical flagship size with a giant 7-inch display, sharper 2K screen output, and possibly an unusually large battery to match.
