NASA has launched an interactive NASA photo timeline that gives a panoramic look at daily life aboard Orion during the crewed lunar mission Artemis II. The timeline lets viewers move through the mission and see how astronauts documented their time in space.

The archive includes images captured with standard hardware such as Nikon cameras and GoPro devices, but it also highlights photos taken with an iPhone 17 Pro Max. That makes the phone part of the visual record for the mission from launch through the astronauts’ time inside the spacecraft.

According to the report, the pictures cover a wide range of cabin scenes in microgravity. There are floating group selfies, work photos with crew members strapped into their seats, and dramatic shots taken through Orion’s front windows, including an eclipse view and a sweeping outline of Earth.

NASA also set strict rules for personal-device use. To protect onboard systems, astronauts were required to fully disable the wireless radio functions on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the phone was not allowed to connect directly to the spacecraft’s flight systems in any way.

During critical phases of flight, the crew had to secure the phones with Velcro or store them safely in their spacesuit pockets. They also couldn’t send anything directly from the handset itself. Instead, all photos and videos had to be transmitted back to Earth through Orion’s onboard communications system.

The timeline effectively turns Artemis II into a visual diary, showing not just the mission’s technical side but also the human side of living and working in deep space.
