A fresh report from XIAOMITIME says the Xiaomi MIX 5 is actively in development, and it could mark the return of the company’s true full-screen flagship approach. The phone is said to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip and may debut a new magnetic lens technology setup.

According to the report, Xiaomi’s internal database lists the device under the codename “hongkong” with the internal model number Q5. The handset is reportedly planned for a 2026 release window and is expected to ship with HyperOS 4 out of the box.

The naming logic is one of the main clues behind the MIX 5 claim. In Xiaomi’s internal structure, the first letter is tied to the product’s release cycle, and the letter Q is said to line up with a 2026 launch. The number also matters: earlier MIX phones used identifiers built around the number 5, while Xiaomi has more recently shifted the number 8 toward its Flip foldable line. Based on that pattern, Q5 is being interpreted as a strong hint that this model is in fact the Xiaomi MIX 5.

The report also says the device will keep the MIX series tradition of testing more experimental hardware ideas before they spread across Xiaomi’s wider lineup. This time, the headline feature could be the return of the under-display camera, which would allow Xiaomi to bring back the uninterrupted full-screen look previously explored on the MIX 4.

Another claimed highlight is first-generation magnetic lens technology. The source suggests it could open the door to new shooting flexibility and improved camera stability, though detailed implementation specifics haven’t been shared yet.

One more notable point is market availability. The leak says the phone is expected to launch in global markets outside Japan, which would make it more widely available than some previous MIX releases. That said, Xiaomi has adjusted its model naming strategy in recent years, so the final launch timing still isn’t locked in.
