A report from ZDNET Korea says Samsung Electronics is considering bringing in BOE as a second supplier of OLED panels for next year’s standard Galaxy S27 smartphone. If that happens, the company would move beyond relying only on Samsung Display for that particular flagship model.
The reported goal behind the dual-sourcing strategy is straightforward: create more competition between panel vendors and put pressure on component pricing. With memory costs rising sharply, Samsung is said to be looking for fresh ways to protect margins elsewhere in the bill of materials.
The report also notes that Chinese display makers have already entered Samsung’s mid-range phone supply chain. For example, the Galaxy A57 is said to use flexible OLED panels from TCL CSOT in at least part of its lineup.
Even so, Samsung appears to be drawing a line between some of its mid-range and upper-tier devices. According to the same report, the Galaxy S26 FE, despite using a display specification aligned with the A57, is still expected to place all of its screen orders with Samsung Display rather than splitting them across suppliers.
That makes the Galaxy S27 rumor notable. If Samsung does move ahead with BOE as a second source for flagship OLED panels, it would signal a broader shift in how the company balances cost control, supplier leverage, and quality management in its premium smartphone business.
