OnePlus 16 and iQOO 16 Could Launch Earlier Than Expected in September, Leaker Claims

A new leak out of China suggests that the next wave of Android flagships may arrive earlier than many buyers expected. According to tipster Digital Chat Station, one sub-brand has already locked in a move to the third quarter, while the OnePlus 16 and iQOO 16 may also be pulled forward to September. The leaker says regulatory filings and product development schedules are both being accelerated.

That would put the potential launch window only about three months away, assuming the information is accurate. It would also make the fall flagship cycle unusually aggressive, especially for brands that traditionally wait for the newest Qualcomm platform and then move quickly with performance-focused devices.

IT Home notes that the same tipster previously discussed a new phone using the SM8975 platform, widely understood to refer to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. That device has been interpreted by observers as the OnePlus 16. The early engineering unit is described as an all-around performance flagship with a BOE flat display offering an exceptionally high refresh rate, a 200-megapixel large-sensor telephoto camera, a battery configuration that may reach the 9,000mAh range, a biomimetic X-axis linear motor for stronger haptics, symmetrical dual speakers, top-tier water resistance, and a dedicated AI key.

The rumored iQOO model appears to be chasing a similar performance-first formula. The tipster has also shared details about an SM8975-based top-end iQOO flagship, believed to be the iQOO 16. Its early engineering sample is said to use an approximately 8,500mAh battery configuration, without a built-in cooling fan. The phone is also expected to feature a large 2K flat display using a new customized substrate and an ultra-high refresh rate.

None of these specifications have been officially confirmed by OnePlus, iQOO, Qualcomm, or their parent companies, so they should still be treated as early leak information rather than final product details. Even so, the pattern is clear: Chinese Android brands are preparing another round of high-refresh displays, very large batteries, upgraded haptics, and next-generation Qualcomm silicon for their upcoming flagship phones.

If the September timing proves correct, more concrete details should begin surfacing soon through certifications, official teasers, and supply-chain leaks. For now, the main takeaway is that the OnePlus 16 and iQOO 16 may be arriving earlier than expected, with both devices likely positioned as heavy-duty performance flagships.
