vivo Says Camera Palette Fixes Will Start Rolling Out in Late July

vivo has responded to recent complaints about the company’s camera palette feature, saying related improvements are now being evaluated and are expected to begin rolling out through an OTA update from late July.

The response came from vivo customer service after users criticized the version of the palette tool that was pushed down to more phones. Some users described the release as an incomplete version, mainly because it did not include all of the customization and saving options found on newer flagship models.

According to vivo, feedback about the palette and camera experience has already been passed to the technical team for a dedicated review. The company said the optimization plan now has several confirmed directions rather than being a vague promise.

First, vivo plans to update the vivo camera palette with a new UI interaction through future system releases. The tool will be supported under the camera “style” capability, while the existing effect adjuster will remain available.

The company also plans to add a switch so users can choose the workflow that better matches their own habits. That matters because camera color tools can be highly personal: some users want quick sliders, while others prefer saving a repeatable look for later shooting.

Second, vivo says it will continue improving the entry point, supported scenes, and final image effect of the palette feature. The company specifically mentioned better support for landscape and portrait shooting modes.

Another important change is local saving. vivo says the palette will later support saving a custom setup as a new style, which should address one of the main complaints about the current rollout.

The affected models include the X200 series, specifically the X200, X200 Pro, X200 Pro mini, and X200s. vivo said those phones will receive the related experience improvements based on the new plan, each model’s hardware capability, and adaptation progress.

The estimated release window starts in late July, and the updates will be pushed gradually with system versions. Users will need to watch for future OTA notifications rather than expect every model to receive the change on the same day.

The palette feature itself was introduced by vivo in March 2026 as an imaging-focused tool. It first appeared on the X300s and X300 Ultra, where it allowed users to customize both color and tone and share recipes with others.

The original version uses a two-axis control design: the horizontal axis adjusts color, while the vertical axis adjusts tone. By moving a point on the coordinate grid, users can quickly change the overall mood of a photo, such as creating a cooler skin tone or a more film-like look.

vivo’s more complete implementation also supports detailed settings such as soft-light strength, halo effects, grain, warm or cool color enhancement, and other professional-style adjustments. Users can save a custom color plan and share it through a QR code or text command.

The controversy started because the version recently delivered to the X200 Ultra, X300 Pro, and X300 camera apps lacked several of those details. Users noticed that it could not save custom recipes and was not connected with the palette feature in the Gallery app.

For U.S. readers, the update is a useful example of how Chinese Android brands are turning camera color science into a software feature rather than only a hardware selling point. The real test will be whether vivo can make the tool consistent across models instead of keeping the best version limited to the newest devices.
