Apple is reportedly testing a much more ambitious iPhone design path, with new supply-chain chatter pointing to both an under-display camera concept device and a possible 200MP main camera under evaluation for a future flagship lineup that could be marketed as the Apple iPhone 20 series.
The latest claim comes from Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station, who says Apple is reviewing a 200-megapixel 1/1.12-inch main sensor solution that’s similar to the hardware expected in OPPO’s Find X9 Ultra. Based on that report, Apple is currently said to be testing the 200MP option only for the main rear camera rather than for a broader multi-camera rollout.
That detail matters because Apple has traditionally moved more cautiously than many Android rivals when it comes to megapixel jumps. If the company is really studying a 200MP main sensor, it would suggest Apple is at least willing to trade up in raw capture resolution as long as the imaging pipeline, low-light performance, and overall tuning still meet its usual standards.
The same source also describes a longer-term display roadmap for Apple’s slab-style phones. According to the leak, the company’s progression would move from the current Dynamic Island era to a smaller cutout once some Face ID components shift under the screen, and then eventually to a stage where Face ID sits fully below the display while a single punch-hole remains. Beyond that, Apple is reportedly testing a more experimental concept model with an under-display camera and a four-curved display design.
That doesn’t mean the feature is arriving right away. The report says Apple’s near-term commercial plans still look more conservative. A previous leak from the same source suggested the iPhone 18 Pro series may reuse portions of the prior industrial design, keeping a broadly similar Dynamic Island-style front while focusing its bigger upgrades elsewhere. Those upgrades are said to include an A20 Pro chip built on a 2nm process, a battery around the 5,000mAh class, and wider imaging improvements.
IT Home also notes broader rumors that Apple’s 2026 flagship cycle may center on premium models, including the iPhone 18 Pro range and a first foldable device often referred to as the iPhone Fold. The company’s long-term goal, according to the report, is still a phone with an uninterrupted glass front and no visible openings at all. If Apple keeps moving in that direction, the eventual Apple iPhone 20 generation in 2027 could become the stage where more radical front-facing display changes are seriously considered.
For now, this is still firmly in rumor territory, and Apple hasn’t confirmed any of it. Even so, the combination of a possible 200MP main camera, a future under-display camera concept, and a full-screen design target paints a pretty clear picture: Apple appears to be exploring bigger imaging upgrades and cleaner front-panel hardware at the same time, even if those ideas arrive in stages rather than all at once.
