Huawei Mate 80 Dominates Smartphone Sales Charts with Massive Leads

Huawei’s latest flagship, the Huawei Mate 80, is absolutely crushing the competition in the Chinese smartphone market. According to recent supply chain data shared by prominent tech blogger Digital Chat Station, the standard Mate 80 model alone is close to hitting a staggering 4 million activations. To be precise, its smartphone activation figures reached 3.93 million units by week 21 (ending May 24th, 2026). That is a massive lead, leaving all other premium flagship phones launched late last year far behind.

Even the ultra-premium Mate 80 Pro Max, which starts at a hefty 7,999 yuan (approximately $1,100 USD), has put up incredibly strong numbers. It racked up around 1 million activations in the same timeframe. Earlier industry reports suggested that the entire Mate 80 series had collectively surpassed the 6 million milestone by mid-May 2026, hitting 6.09 million units sold by week 20. This showcases a clear Mate 80 dominance that rivals are struggling to match.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi is pushing back hard with its own premium offerings. The Xiaomi 17 series—excluding the ultra-high-end Ultra version—has recorded approximately 4.67 million activations. This breakdown includes 1 million units for the standard Xiaomi 17, 1.75 million for the Pro model, and 1.92 million for the Pro Max. While these numbers are highly impressive, they represent the cumulative strength of three distinct models, whereas Huawei’s single standard Mate 80 model is nearly matching their entire combined output on its own.

However, the sales battle is far from over. Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing recently teased that the new Xiaomi 17T series is scheduled for a domestic launch in early June 2026. This upcoming release is expected to provide a major boost to Xiaomi’s overall lineup, potentially closing the gap or even pulling ahead of the Mate 80 series in the coming months. For now, though, Huawei remains the undisputed king of the premium segment, showing that its brand momentum in China is stronger than ever. Huawei Mate 80 sales continue to break records, cementing the brand’s return to absolute market leadership.
