Huawei officially unveiled its highly anticipated Huawei nova 16 Pro and nova 16 Ultra smartphones at a major launch event in Chengdu, China. Marketed around a striking “summer aesthetics” theme and endorsed by the popular youth group Boyhood (时代少年团), these new devices pack flagship-grade features—including ultra-durable Kunlun Glass, massive batteries, and a ground-breaking camera system—starting at a highly competitive price of 3,899 yuan (approximately $540 USD).
At the heart of the series’ photographic prowess is an industry-first 200MP Red Maple Camera system. The rear array is headlined by a massive 200-megapixel RYYB main sensor (1/1.28-inch footprint, f/1.8 aperture) equipped with both OIS and AIS stabilization. This is paired with a 50-megapixel RYYB periscope telephoto lens (1/2.5-inch, 3.7X optical zoom) and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide macro lens covering a 118-degree field of view. A dedicated multi-spectral “Red Maple” color sensor and laser autofocus sensor round out the rear module. For selfies, the Pro and Ultra models feature a front-facing 50-megapixel dual camera system with a 1/2.5-inch sensor, supporting 0.8X to 5X variable zoom and a multi-spectral channel for hyper-accurate color reproduction.
Powering the new lineup is Huawei’s in-house Kirin 9010S processor, coupled with the latest HarmonyOS 6.1 operating system. According to terminal business CEO He Gang, the software-hardware synergy delivers a 10% boost in overall system performance and a 12% improvement in desktop responsiveness. Gamers will appreciate the new “Ice Bridge” cooling architecture, which increases heat dissipation efficiency by 25%. This allows both the Pro and Ultra models to run demanding MOBA and FPS titles at a locked 120 frames per second, yielding a massive 41% to 46% increase in frame stability compared to the previous generation.

The display and battery specifications are equally top-tier. The Huawei nova 16 Pro sports a 6.84-inch LTPO OLED curved screen with a resolution of 2856*1320, a 1-120Hz dynamic refresh rate, and an extraordinary peak brightness of 6,000 nits (APL 1%)—making it the brightest display in nova series history. To keep the lights on, the phone houses a massive 7,000mAh Giant Whale silicon-carbon battery. Despite this huge capacity, the Pro model measures just 7.1mm in thickness. Charging is handled by a 100W wired supercharge solution, while the premium Ultra variant adds 50W wireless charging.
In terms of design, the Pro model is built with an aviation-grade aluminum frame and Velvet AG glass, offering a premium satin-like touch. It is available in Sky White, Fancy Mother-of-pearl, Clear Sky Blue, and Starry Sky Black. The Ultra model steps things up with an integrated vegan leather and glass splicing back panel, along with IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance. Pricing for the Huawei nova 16 Pro starts at 3,899 yuan ($540 USD) for 256GB, climbing to 4,999 yuan ($690 USD) for the 1TB option. The Ultra version starts at 4,699 yuan ($650 USD) for 256GB and tops out at 5,799 yuan ($800 USD) for 1TB. Official sales kick off on June 5, 2026.
