The feature appears to work from the lock screen wallpaper editing flow. Based on the reported hands-on video, users can long-press the lock screen wallpaper, choose a new photo, and then use a pinch gesture on the screen to bring up the expansion option.
After selecting the subject in the photo, users can tap “Expand” and wait briefly while the system generates a wider version of the image. In practice, the feature is meant to help a photo better fit the lock screen layout when the original framing leaves empty space or doesn’t match the display shape.
