A fresh rumor about a phone maker’s next-generation system design has sparked a quick response from OPPO’s ColorOS team, and the answer is basically: don’t assume it’s OPPO.
Chinese tech blogger Digital Chat Station recently said that an unnamed manufacturer’s new system uses a new light field interaction design. The leak mentioned features and visual effects such as AI adaptive color picking and a Glass-style material effect.
Chen Xi, design director for OPPO ColorOS, responded to the rumor today. He said some users had asked whether the leak was describing OPPO, possibly because “light field design” is a name associated with OPPO. According to Chen, though, the description probably isn’t about OPPO.
Chen also added an interesting industry-side comment. He said that, based on what he had heard, another brand may be following a Liquid Glass UI direction quite aggressively. As for ColorOS 17, he said the changes “won’t be very big” and will still be centered on the basic user experience.

That point matters because smartphone UI updates are often judged by big visual shifts, but Chen’s comments suggest OPPO may be spending more of this cycle polishing everyday behavior. He said these summer months are a core period for basic experience optimization, so new features are being temporarily slowed down.
Chen shared a little more in the comment section as well. When a user complained that the album app had dropped frames across several versions, Chen replied that this made it even more important to optimize the experience properly. When asked about the timing for the new system’s internal test rollout, he said it would be similar to last year.

Earlier reports said OPPO may be preparing a phone with a four-curved design style that takes some inspiration from Apple’s rumored 20th-anniversary iPhone direction. That model is expected to arrive in the second half of the year alongside ColorOS 17.
Other rumors have claimed that ColorOS 17 may include more Liquid Glass-like UI elements, more consistent rounded corners, additional light field rendering, and real-time lighting effects in notification pop-ups, dynamic island-style areas, and music playback scenes.

For now, though, Chen’s public reply makes the situation less certain. The rumored system with AI color picking and Glass material may belong to another manufacturer, while OPPO ColorOS appears to be focusing more on stability, smoothness, and core interaction polish before pushing major new features.
