REDMI 17 Series Appears in IMEI Database With Separate 5G and 4G Models

A new report says Xiaomi’s upcoming REDMI 17 family has surfaced in the GSMA IMEI database, giving an early look at how the company may position its next round of budget smartphones. IT Home cites earlier reporting from XIAOMITIME, which says the discovery comes from both database listings and internal code references.

According to the report, the lineup includes two versions under the codenames ‘mist’ and ‘zephyr.’ Their internal model names are said to be P19 and P19A, suggesting Xiaomi is preparing two closely related devices rather than a single global handset.

The more advanced ‘mist’ version is expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chip and support 5G. Database references reportedly already point to a China variant carrying model number 26021RN18C and an India variant listed as 26021RN18I. That makes this version the clearer fit for markets where Xiaomi still wants a low-cost 5G option.

The ‘zephyr’ model, by contrast, is aimed more at 4G-focused regions. It is expected to use the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 platform and launch more broadly in global markets. That split hints that Xiaomi is still tailoring its entry-level phones by region instead of forcing the same connectivity strategy everywhere.

The naming strategy may also vary by market. The source says the China version of ‘mist’ could launch as the REDMI Note 17R, while the India model may use the name REDMI 17 5G. There’s also a chance it could be rebranded as the POCO M8 Plus 5G. Meanwhile, the ‘zephyr’ device may come to market as the REDMI 17 4G or the POCO M9 4G.

Pricing is expected to land in the $100 to $150 range, which keeps the series aimed squarely at the value segment. If those details hold, the REDMI 17 family looks set to continue Xiaomi’s strategy of offering highly segmented, region-specific budget phones with familiar hardware trade-offs around 4G, 5G, and branding.
