Over the past week, a flood of rumors has surfaced surrounding Samsung’s next-generation foldables, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the premium Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. According to reliable supply chain leaks, Samsung is planning a major naming restructuring this year. The newly designed, wider foldable device will be officially branded as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the familiar standard fold form factor that users have grown accustomed to will be rebranded as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
Well-known tech leaker Ice Universe has provided additional key specifications for these upcoming devices. The wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 is rumored to weigh a mere 201 grams, making it incredibly lightweight for a booklet-style foldable. Despite its thin profile, it will be equipped with a robust 4,800mAh battery and will support up to 45W fast wired charging, a welcome upgrade for power users.

On the camera front, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to feature a brand-new 50-megapixel primary camera sensor. Excitingly, it will offer native support for a high-detail 24-megapixel shooting mode out of the box. This means users will no longer need to download the specialized Camera Assistant module from Samsung’s Good Lock suite just to unlock this higher-quality resolution mode.
Meanwhile, the premium Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will focus on refinement and hardware enhancements. It is rumored to weigh 215 grams, which is identical to the current Galaxy Z Fold 7. However, Samsung has managed to pack a significantly larger battery into the device, upgrading the capacity from 4,400mAh to a massive 5,000mAh. Additionally, its wired charging speed is getting a long-overdue boost, jumping from 25W up to 45W.
The leaks also suggest that Samsung has achieved further engineering breakthroughs with the Ultra model, reducing its unfolded thickness from 4.2mm down to a paper-thin 4.1mm. Taken together, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra shapes up to be a powerful and refined successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, addressing key user complaints by offering a larger battery, faster charging, and a sleeker body.
Samsung is expected to officially unveil its next-generation foldable lineup at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event. Previous leaks point to July 22 in London as the most likely date and location for the launch event. Tech enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly waiting to see if these leaked specifications hold true.
