Samsung users are reporting that video filters have disappeared after the One UI 8.5 update, and the change appears to affect a wide range of Galaxy phones, from flagship models to mid-range devices.
According to Android Authority, people who installed the update can no longer access filters in video mode. Before the change, users could switch to the camera’s video mode, tap the wand icon in the top-right corner, and apply built-in looks such as Fresh, Cool, Retro, and Black & White.
The feature had already been limited to Full HD recording and didn’t work in 4K, but users now say it’s gone even at 1080p 30fps and 1080p 60fps. Filters still remain available in photo mode, which makes the removal more noticeable for people who used the effect while filming.
The same outlet also checked a Galaxy S26 Ultra running the One UI 9 beta and found that video filters were missing there too. Since the option is absent in both generations of the software, the report suggests this may be an intentional Samsung change rather than a temporary bug.
Community members have pointed to two workarounds. One is to apply a filter in photo mode and then long-press the shutter button to start recording, though many users say that’s too awkward for everyday use. The other is to add a filter afterward in Samsung’s gallery app, but that can recompress the video and reduce image quality.
For Galaxy owners who liked the old in-camera effect, the bigger issue is convenience. If Samsung really has dropped the feature on purpose, users may have to choose between a more complicated shooting flow and lower-quality edits after the fact.
