A new Sony phone carrying model number PY7-30515Z has appeared in the FCC database, and while the filing doesn’t confirm the final retail name, reports suggest it could be the Xperia 1 VIII or another upcoming Xperia model.

Sony has requested 180 days of confidentiality for photos of the device and other sensitive materials, which is typically done to avoid revealing the final hardware too early. What stands out here is the timing: the filing was reportedly submitted on March 23, 2026, nearly a month earlier than the previous-generation Xperia 1 VII, which could point to an earlier launch window this year.

Based on the available certification details, the device supports a 5G modem, Wi-Fi 7, wireless charging, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also lists support for bands including N5, N41, N66, and N77, which suggests a feature set broadly in line with Sony’s recent flagship phones.

Earlier reporting cited by IT Home claimed the Xperia 1 VIII may move away from Sony’s long-running vertical triple-camera layout and instead use a separate rectangular camera island. The same report said the phone could use Qualcomm’s fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and ship with at least 12GB of memory.
