Xiaomi 17 Pro adds an electronic wooden fish feature to its rear display with eight styles and custom calming text

Xiaomi 17 Pro devices are getting a new electronic wooden fish feature for the rear display, according to an official announcement from Xiaomi. The update adds eight different wooden fish styles, and each one can trigger its own sound effect when tapped.

Xiaomi also says users can add their own calming or healing text, turning the rear display into a small customizable interactive space instead of just a secondary panel for notifications or status info.

The company says this new option joins several other tools already available on the rear display of the Xiaomi 17 Pro series. Those include a New Year Flag template for tracking 2026 goals, a privacy-oriented hidden mode that can shut off permissions such as microphone and camera access from the back screen, and a conversation translation feature that shows translated text on the rear panel while Chinese is entered on the main screen.

Beyond that, Xiaomi says its rear-screen experience also supports extras like virtual pets, case-on screenshots from the back display, and saving AI-generated wallpapers to the photo gallery. The broader pitch is that the rear display is meant to feel playful as well as practical.

Xiaomi executive Lu Weibing previously said the Xiaomi 17 series has become the best-selling numbered flagship line in the company’s history, with the Pro models standing out in particular. This latest feature update appears to be part of that effort to keep the Pro lineup visually distinctive and fun to use.
