A new rumor suggests Xiaomi’s next in-house mobile chip could be a major step forward. Blogger @That_Kartikey wrote on X that, based on Xiaomi’s update cycle, the company’s next-generation Xuanjie chip — expected to be called Xuanjie O3 — may aim for performance comparable to Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8E5 flagship platform.
The claim has not been officially confirmed, but it lines up with earlier comments from Xiaomi president Lu Weibing. During a previous livestream, Lu said Xiaomi plans to release an updated version of its Xuanjie chip in the second half of this year.
Lu described the upcoming chip as a self-developed processor with very strong overall capability. He also said a flagship product with “quite impressive” performance would later use the new chip, which has led to speculation that the device could be Xiaomi’s MIX Fold 5.
If that proves accurate, the MIX Fold 5 would become an important showcase for Xiaomi’s silicon ambitions. A foldable flagship gives the company room to highlight performance, imaging, battery efficiency, and thermal management in a premium device rather than a mainstream phone.

For context, the current Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 was released in July 2024 with a starting price of 8,999 yuan. It uses Qualcomm’s third-generation Snapdragon 8 flagship platform and features a 7.98-inch inner display plus a 6.56-inch outer display.
The MIX Fold 4 also includes a Leica Summilux-branded quad-camera system and a 5,100mAh Xiaomi Jinshajiang three-dimensional shaped battery. Those specifications make it a useful benchmark for what Xiaomi may try to improve with the next foldable model.
For U.S. readers, the bigger story is not just another foldable phone rumor. If Xuanjie O3 really comes close to Snapdragon 8E5 performance, Xiaomi would be signaling that it wants more control over the core technology inside its high-end phones, similar to the direction Apple has taken with its own chips.
There is still no official launch date, full specification sheet, or confirmed product name for the chip or the foldable device. For now, the details should be treated as early supply-chain and industry chatter, but they point to a more aggressive Xiaomi strategy in flagship mobile processors.
