Sony Xperia 1 VIII renders point to a red finish and a redesigned square camera island

A fresh set of renders for the Sony Xperia 1 VIII suggests the upcoming flagship could arrive in a red color option while also making one of the biggest camera design changes the series has seen in years.

The images, shared by source outlet sumahodigest, indicate that Sony may be moving away from its long-running vertical camera strip in favor of a square camera island that sits close to the edge of the phone.

That would be a noticeable break from the look Sony has used across multiple Xperia generations, and it could help the device stand out more clearly from the previous model at a glance.

The report also points to upgraded imaging hardware. Earlier coverage said the new phone could use three 48MP cameras, which would be a meaningful shift for the lineup.

On the older Xperia 1 VII, Sony had already moved to 48-megapixel sensors for the main and ultra-wide cameras, but the telephoto unit still stayed at a lower 12-megapixel resolution.

If this leak holds up, the Sony Xperia 1 VIII could offer a more balanced rear camera setup while pairing it with a much more aggressive exterior redesign.

Sony has not confirmed these details yet, but the combination of a red finish, a new square camera island, and triple 48-megapixel sensors would make this one of the most visible Xperia design updates in quite a while.
