Report Says Samsung Phone Repair Claims Cost Insured US Users About 60% More Than iPhone Repairs

A new report from insurance marketplace and information site Insuranceopedia says insured Samsung phone owners in the US are still paying noticeably more for repairs than iPhone users. According to the April 27 report, the average out-of-pocket repair cost for Samsung customers lands around $100 to $120, while comparable insured iPhone repairs average about $75.

That gap means Samsung users can end up paying roughly 30% to 60% more even after coverage is already in place. Over time, especially for people who keep premium phones for several years, those differences can add up to a few hundred dollars in extra repair spending.

Insuranceopedia says the biggest reason comes down to how the two service systems are priced. AppleCare+ generally uses a more fixed-fee repair model, so users usually have a clearer sense of what they will owe before they bring a phone in for service.

Samsung Care+, by contrast, is described as more variable. Repair pricing can change depending on the phone model and the type of damage involved, which makes the final bill harder to predict. The report argues that this lack of transparency pushes average Samsung repair claims higher and leaves more room for tiered pricing to affect total cost.

The analysis also ties repair economics to broader brand perception. When ownership costs rise, especially for high-end devices, consumers may start thinking not only about hardware specs but also about what happens after the purchase. In that context, predictable service pricing can become part of a brand’s competitive advantage rather than just a support detail.

The report points to CIRP data showing Apple held a 63% share in 2025, while Samsung fell to 20.6%, down 3% year over year. On a global basis, it says the gap between Apple and Samsung has widened to its largest level since November 2016. Insuranceopedia itself is a free insurance marketplace and information platform focused on helping users compare quotes and coverage more clearly.
