Apple Reportedly Plans a Siri Camera Mode in iOS 27 for Labels, Contacts, Tickets, and More

A new report says Apple is preparing to add a dedicated Siri camera mode to the Camera app in iOS 27, bringing more of the company’s Visual Intelligence features into a place users can reach much more easily.

According to the report, the new mode would appear directly in the camera interface alongside existing options like Photo, Video, Portrait, and Panorama. It would also carry an Apple Intelligence label, making it clearer that the mode is built around AI-assisted recognition and action features instead of basic image capture alone.

The biggest change here is convenience. Right now, the report says users typically have to press and hold the Camera Control button to trigger Visual Intelligence, which means a lot of people may not even realize the feature is available. By placing it inside the main Camera app as a dedicated Siri camera mode, Apple would make the feature far more visible and much easier to use in everyday situations.

Functionally, the report says Visual Intelligence would keep its existing abilities, including recognizing plants and animals, adding events to the calendar, and handing off searches to ChatGPT or Google Images when needed. On top of that, Apple is reportedly expanding the feature set in several practical directions.

One of the more useful additions would be food label scanning. Users could point the camera at packaged food and record calorie and nutrition details, with that information then syncing into the Health app.

The same mode is also said to support scanning business cards so it can capture phone numbers and addresses, then send that information straight into the Contacts app without requiring manual re-entry.

Apple may also extend the feature into Wallet. The report says users would be able to scan physical event tickets and membership cards, then generate digital versions that can be stored inside the Wallet app.

If this feature ships as described, the change wouldn’t just be about adding another camera toggle. It would represent Apple turning the Camera app into a more direct front door for on-device assistance, using the iPhone camera not only to capture images, but also to recognize real-world information and move it into the apps where it’s actually useful.
