Sony has officially confirmed a smartphone launch event for 10:00 a.m. Beijing time on May 13, and the teaser strongly points to the Sony Xperia 1 VIII as the main attraction. The camera styling shown in the promotional image lines up with earlier leaks that repeatedly tied the event to Sony’s next flagship phone.

According to the report, the Sony Xperia 1 VIII is expected to arrive in four color options: Graphite Black, Iolite Silver, Garnet Red, and Native Gold. The phone is also said to adopt a new square-shaped rear camera module, with Sony’s branding repositioned into the camera area rather than sitting lower on the back panel as before.
On the hardware side, the device is rumored to feature a 6.5-inch 120Hz OLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ HDR resolution. Power is expected to come from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite platform, paired with 12GB of memory, while Sony may also keep a 3.5mm headphone jack and dual-SIM support — two details that continue to matter for longtime Xperia buyers.
Camera changes could be one of the more interesting shifts this generation. Instead of the continuous optical zoom system used on the Xperia 1 VII, this model may move back to a more traditional setup with a 48MP periscope telephoto camera, a 1/1.56-inch sensor, and a fixed 3x optical zoom range.
Sony hasn’t published the final spec sheet yet, but the official event timing now gives the existing leak cycle a clearer anchor. If the teaser is pointing where it seems to be, the Sony Xperia 1 VIII should get its full introduction next week.
