Samsung May Rebrand Part of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Line, With Z Fold 8 Ultra Replacing the Current Naming Plan

Samsung is expected to unveil its next Galaxy Z Fold 8 series this July, and a fresh leak suggests the company may be reworking how part of the lineup is named before launch.

According to Weibo tipster Ice Universe, the model previously rumored as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide could simply ship as the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8. Under that same claim, the device that had been treated as the main large-format foldable would instead take the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra name.

If that leak is accurate, the two models would also be positioned a little more clearly. Earlier rumors say the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could feature a 5000mAh battery and a triple-camera system that includes a telephoto lens, while the wider foldable model may use a 4800mAh battery and a dual-camera setup without telephoto hardware.

Several overseas reports had previously used two different names for the wider device, including Galaxy Z Wide Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. From a branding standpoint, dropping the awkward “Wide” naming could make Samsung’s foldable smartphones lineup easier for buyers to understand if the company goes through with the change.
