Huawei officially launched the new nova 16 series today at its smart launch event in Chengdu, Sichuan. Among the announcements, the online-exclusive Huawei nova 16z launch stole the spotlight, boasting a unique 50MP Red Maple camera system. With a starting price of 2,699 yuan, pre-orders are open, and official sales will kick off on June 5 at 10:08 AM.
According to He Gang, CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, the nova 16z comes in three stunning color options: Sky White, iridescent Mother-of-Pearl, and Starry Black. Unlike the standard nova 16 or the higher-end 16 Pro, the nova 16z stands out with a glossy frame design. The lighter color variations feature a stylish gradient effect on the back panel, housing an oval camera module that surrounds a rounded-rectangular lens cluster.
When it comes to hardware specs, the new phone is equipped with a high-end 50MP Red Maple camera on the back and a high-resolution 50MP front-facing portrait camera. The camera system supports Huawei’s ‘Time Journal’ themes and advanced AI editing tools. Around the front, the phone sports a gorgeous 6.7-inch ultra-clear eye-care OLED display. It also supports rapid 5A data transfer speeds and Beidou satellite messaging support.

Under the hood, this phone is powered by the capable Kirin 8020 chip running the new HarmonyOS 6.1 operating system, a combo that Huawei promises will deliver ‘powerful, smooth performance.’ To keep the lights on, Huawei has packed a massive 6,000mAh silicon-carbon negative electrode battery that supports lightning-fast 100W wired fast charging.
As reported from the launch event floor, the 256GB storage variant of the phone is priced at 2,699 yuan (around $372 USD), while the 512GB storage version will retail for 3,199 yuan (around $441 USD). Keep in mind that this model is an online exclusive and will only be sold through the official Huawei Mall and authorized e-commerce partner channels.
