Apple may be planning a meaningful camera and photo workflow upgrade in iOS 27, according to a new report highlighted by 9to5Mac. The update is said to build on the redesign introduced in iOS 26 while adding more flexibility for power users and several AI-assisted editing features.
The biggest reported change is a more customizable Camera app. Right now, many advanced controls on iPhone are tucked into secondary menus, but Bloomberg reportedly says Apple wants to let users decide which tools stay on the main shooting screen. Options such as flash, exposure control, timer settings, and resolution could become easier to pin where people actually want them, and some controls may shift closer to the shutter button for faster access.
The report also says Apple plans to deepen its Visual Intelligence integration by bringing it into the camera experience through a new Siri-based layer. That could expand everyday tasks like scanning nutrition labels or reading business cards, instead of keeping the feature hidden behind more limited entry points.
On the photo editing side, the Photos app in iOS 27 is said to gain three new AI photo tools: Extend, Enhance, and Reframe. Extend would work in a way similar to generative fill by expanding an image beyond its original borders. Enhance would automatically improve color, image quality, and lighting, while Reframe is reportedly aimed at spatial photos and would let users adjust framing and perspective after the shot has already been taken.
