A new rumor suggests that the next performance-focused iQOO Neo model may push display specifications higher than before. The phone is expected to be the iQOO Neo 12, and the latest claim points to at least a 2K screen with a 165Hz refresh rate, with testing reportedly underway for an even faster 185Hz option.
The information comes from the Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, who said that an upcoming performance phone from a manufacturer is getting stronger access to domestic display technology. According to the post, the baseline target is a 2K display with 165Hz refresh, while the company is also trying to move toward 185Hz refresh rate support.
Although the post did not directly name the device in the main text, the wording and follow-up discussion point toward the iQOO Neo 12. In the comments, when a user asked whether the new generation was no longer using Samsung panels, the tipster replied that the brand’s digital flagship phones are the ones using Samsung panels.
That reply matters because it suggests the Neo-series performance model may continue focusing on high-spec domestic panels, while the brand’s main flagship line follows a different display supplier strategy. For gaming-oriented phones, refresh rate and touch response can be just as important to buyers as chipset performance.
For context, the iQOO Neo 11 launched last October with a 6.82-inch BOE Q10+ 2K display running at 144Hz. It also used the Snapdragon 8 Elite platform and supported a 3200Hz instant touch sampling rate. In China, the 12GB+256GB version started at 2,599 yuan.
If the Neo 12 moves from 2K 144Hz to 2K 165Hz, or even tests 2K 185Hz, it would be a clear upgrade in screen speed on paper. The jump would mainly matter to users who play high-frame-rate games, care about smoother scrolling, or want a device that feels especially responsive.
There are still several unknowns. The leak does not confirm the final panel, chipset, battery capacity, charging speed, camera setup, or release window. It also does not guarantee that the 185Hz option will make it into mass production. Testing a display specification and shipping it on a retail phone are not always the same thing.
Still, the report gives a useful early look at where iQOO may be taking its next Neo performance phone. If the iQOO Neo 12 lands with a high-resolution screen and an unusually fast refresh rate, it could become one of the more aggressive display-focused Android models in its class.
