OPPO Sets a May 29 Premiere for a New Graduation-Themed Short Film Tied to the Reno 16 Series

OPPO Reno 16 promotion is getting a story-driven push just ahead of first sales. OPPO has announced that a new graduation-themed image film will premiere on May 29, extending the company’s recent habit of wrapping product marketing in short cinematic projects.

The teaser language leans nostalgic, asking what the future version of ourselves might look like 10 years later. OPPO hasn’t shared the full plot yet, but the campaign is clearly aimed at the graduation season and younger buyers who are likely to connect with that theme.

The timing matches the commercial rollout of the Reno 16 lineup. OPPO launched the series on the evening of May 25, and according to IT Home, the phones use the Dimensity 9500s and Dimensity 8550 SUPER platforms depending on model. The line also puts a lot of emphasis on imaging, with a 200MP camera as one of the headline features. Pricing starts at 3,499 yuan, or 2,999 yuan after national subsidies, and official sales begin on May 29.

OPPO has already experimented with this format before. In February, the brand premiered a nearly 13-minute Lunar New Year short film called The Time Thief, which was shot on the OPPO Find X9 Pro. That project was created with director Yang Lina and screenwriter Qiu Yujie and used the idea of “stealing time” as a metaphor for a small-town story about disruption, reflection, and returning to the present.

What OPPO hasn’t confirmed yet is whether this new graduation film was actually shot on the Reno 16 series itself. That detail is still unclear. Even so, the campaign fits the product message: the Reno 16 lineup is being sold as a camera-forward phone family, and OPPO is using a narrative film to reinforce that imaging identity rather than relying only on spec sheets.
