Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and 4 Gen 5 for Midrange Phones Launching in H2 2026

Qualcomm has introduced two new mobile chips in the US market: the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. Devices built around these new Qualcomm mobile platforms are expected to arrive in the second half of 2026.

Both chipsets add Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Smooth Motion UI feature, which is meant to improve responsiveness in day-to-day use. According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 can speed up app launches by 20% while cutting screen stutter by 18%. On the lower tier, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 is said to boost app launch speed by 43% and reduce stutter by 25%.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, model number SM6850, uses a 4nm process and combines four 2.6GHz performance cores with four 2.0GHz efficiency cores. Qualcomm says GPU performance is up by 21%. The platform supports up to 16GB of LPDDR4X-4200 or LPDDR5-6400 memory, along with UFS 3.1 storage.

On the display and connectivity side, the chip supports FHD+ screens at up to 144Hz. Mobile download speeds can reach 2.8Gbps, and OEMs can optionally pair it with Wi-Fi 7 support at 320MHz. Qualcomm also says the platform includes dual 12-bit DSP capability, can handle photo capture up to 200MP, and uses a USB 2.0 interface rated at 480Mbps.

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, also known as SM4850, is likewise built on a 4nm node. It uses two 2.4GHz performance cores and six 2.0GHz efficiency cores. Qualcomm says its GPU performance jumps by 77%, while memory support includes LPDDR4X-4267 and dual-channel UFS 3.1 storage.

This lower-tier chip supports FHD+ 144Hz or HD+ 120Hz displays. It reaches 2.8Gbps on downlink and 900Mbps on uplink over cellular, while wireless support is limited to Wi‑Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1. It also includes dual 12-bit DSP capability, supports photo capture up to 108MP, and keeps the same 480Mbps USB 2.0 specification.

Taken together, these two Qualcomm mobile platforms show how aggressively features are moving down into the midrange. Faster displays, higher-resolution cameras, and smoother UI performance are no longer reserved just for premium devices, and that should make H2 2026 a busy stretch for Android phone launches.
